Checklist
Entryway declutter and drop zone checklist
This is for an entryway that has turned into a pile. It takes about an hour, plus a few minutes a week. Tick each step as you go or print the page.
Your ticks are saved only in this browser, on this device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
How to use this
Empty first. You cannot judge what an entryway needs while it is covered. Then keep only what is used at this door. Most entryways overflow because they hold everything that passes through, not because they are too small. If the sorted piles still exceed what fits, run the capacity calculator before buying more containers.
If a drop zone keeps failing, the usual cause is friction: a hook too high, a basket too full, a step that takes longer than dropping things on the floor. Make the right place the easiest place.

Where this comes from
The sequence of empty, sort, assign and maintain reflects widely repeated home organizing advice rather than a single source. The times are rough estimates, not measurements, and we have not timed anyone doing it.
